Well, we are almost to the end of our son's Freshman year of High School! This has definitely been a year of adjustment! He will be taking his end of year course assessment for Algebra I soon & we shall find out if he has to repeat that course next year. We are encouraging him to take the course in summer school either way to help him understand it better. He will have Algebra II next year, so he needs to understand the work. We put him in after school study tables to help him as well. I have kept in pretty good contact with his teacher, guidance counselor & teacher of record to help us through this year. They have been a pretty good help. I've already been in contact with the guidance counselor for next year to help make sure he's on the right track from the beginning. They've adjusted his classes a little next year to give him more assistance in math & English. A good lesson I have learned over the years is to stay in contact with the school & be respectful of the staff. I've found they want what's best for my kid & if we work together we usually come up with a good plan. I may not always agree with the course of action they want to take & they do listen to what I have to say. We are working together to help my son achieve his best in his education. I'm amazed at what the kids today have to do to graduate! I don't know if I would make it now. I'm very proud of my son with how well he has always done in school! His Asperger's makes it difficult sometimes to follow some things, but what he does get, he gets! He has an amazing mind for ancient history. He also knows quite a bit about animals & their habitats. He loves things on the environment. He's learning a lot about movies & actors these days too. He signed up for a theatre class next year. We'll see what happens there. |
