End of School Year!

Well, we made it through our 1st year of High School!! I wondered for a while. Our son really struggled with some of his classes this year. Algebra I was the toughest. One of the issues with it, I believe, was the fact they changed his teacher for the 2nd semester. He did better with the teacher he had 1st semester. He still passed, though. Yay!! He did pretty well in the rest of his classes. Next year we are having him put into team taught classes for English & Algebra II. I'm hoping that helps. He will also have a study hall with assistance in it for his assignments. I am so thankful we are in a school system that is willing to really work with us to help our son.
We got a new puppy a few months ago. A mini schnauzer. I've been wanting to get a dog for a long time. I thought it might help our son connect on an emotional level more. It's taken a little while, but he's really starting to enjoy the dog. The dog (Frodo) loves to jump up on the kids and play. Our Aspie son growls at him to get him to growl back. They chase each other around the house. We just watch & laugh. I'm so glad our son is enjoying himself so much with Frodo.
I'm also preparing to take our son to New York for birthday #16. We've been planning this trip for a long time & it's almost here! It's just him & me going. It's our "big adventure". One of his dreams has always been to go to the American Museum of Natural History in New York, so we're going. Our hotel has a separate bedroom & living room; so we'll each have our own area at night. It's so good to see our boy really look forward to something; especially when it's spending time with mom.
We also have him all signed up for his summer program at the Dunes Lakeshore. They have a free program every summer for kids to work with the Park Rangers & learn about the Lakeshore. Our Aspie son is pretty passionate about the Lakeshore. He's walked so many of the trails many times. He'd love to work there one day. We shall see...
Dad has also started working out with him this summer. They're lifting weights. This is an encouragement to our son as he wants to build up his strength. I'm hoping it will help him with the other kids &  how they treat him. He's so tall & thin right now; 5'11" & 127 lbs. I think a little muscle on his body will help.
This has been an interesting year, full of new experiences & change. Our Aspie son has been handling it pretty well. He amazes me sometimes how he deals with things. Then there's times, well, I just don't know how we would get through those times without God. He carries us through some trying times.
